Take your silversmithing skills to the next level with personalized, one-on-one instruction tailored to your individual goals. These private sessions are designed for students who are committed to learning the craft and want a truly hands-on educational experience.

As a self-taught traditional silversmith, I teach hand fabrication using time-honored techniques rather than mass-production methods. My instruction reflects the skills, methods, and problem-solving techniques that I have developed through years of hands-on experience at the bench. While every silversmith has their own approach, I teach the processes and workflows that have proven successful for me in creating high-quality, handcrafted jewelry.

Whether you’re looking to build a strong foundation or refine existing skills, instruction can be customized to include sawing, soldering, forming, stone setting, texturing, finishing, and other traditional jewelry-making techniques.

My greatest strengths are precision saw work and intricate sweat soldering. I especially enjoy teaching the skills required to create detailed, hand-fabricated jewelry with clean craftsmanship and lasting quality. (See the photos above for examples of my recent work.)

Before scheduling, we’ll discuss your goals to determine whether they’re a good fit for my teaching style and area of expertise. If your interests involve techniques outside my specialty, I’ll let you know. When appropriate, I’m happy to research specific processes in advance so I can create a learning experience that best supports your objectives.

Because every lesson is fully customized, session length and pricing vary based on the techniques being taught, the materials required, and the amount of instruction requested.

To inquire about private instruction, please email finishingstone@gmail.com with the following:

  • Your experience level
  • What you’d like to learn
  • Any project ideas or goals you have

I look forward to helping you build confidence at the bench while preserving the art of traditional hand-fabricated silversmithing.
